This weekend I took the time to bake a carrot cake. During the process everything seemed fine and looked the way it was supposed to be. During the time in the oven, it rose perfectly and started to look like a marvellous cake. But it took so long before it was ready, before it was cooked through. And when I thought it was completely cooked through and took out the oven to cool and later out of the tin I baked it in something seemed off. It collapsed entirely and the texture seemed so far off from a cake. It looked more like a pudding. I’m not sure what exactly I did wrong, but it wasn’t really edible. Which is a shame, because the flavour was so lovely.
So this week I won’t share you a recipe, but will I share this failure. And next year, I will give the carrot cake another shot and will share the success then. Besides, if I would share only my success in baking, you might start to think I was actually good at it. Which I’m not really and I don’t think I’m the only one who has a baking fail in their history.
